BRITISH SCHOOLS’ JUDO ASSOCIATION (BSJA)

NOTICE OF INFORMATION FOR ALL REGISTERED MEMBER SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES

This is to bring to your notice the change that has taken place within the British Schools’ Judo Association (BSJA) with regards to its future.

It is now common knowledge that the for the last few years the National Council for Schools’ Sports, which is the educational advisory body for all schools sports, have recommended that all schools sport’s associations should link up with the national governing body for their particular sport, in order for schoolchildren to have a pathway for the long term athletic development programme.

With this in mind the officers of the BSJA management committee negotiated with the officers and Board of Directors of the British Judo Association (BJA), which is the National Governing Body for Judo in the United Kingdom and both group of officers agreed that it would be significant to follow this sound advice and forge a closer link between both associations. Over the last three years there have been ongoing meetings which have taken place between BSJA commissions and their BJA counterparts, which have been very productive, interesting, helpful and worthwhile and it is felt that this is best way forward for schools judo.

The BSJA have discussed the present situation with senior representatives of Sport England and have also taken legal advice on this issue to ensure that what we are doing is indeed moving in the right direction and following the correct procedure. The officers of the BSJA National Management Committee have been in the process of forming a commission within the BJA by working jointly with National officers of the BJA and a group of Development officers who have been selected to arrange and organise all future development of judo in schools. The object being to utilise the knowledge and experience of the senior qualified officers from both organisations to advance the benefits and enjoyment for all our young members whilst keeping a high standard of efficiency, experience and ability and maintaining a constant progression for the future.

At the Extraordinary General Meeting which was convened to discuss and decide on the way forward, it was agreed to follow the National Council for Schools Sports and the legal guidance which we had been given and become integrated members of the British Judo Association. The British Schools’ Judo Association (BSJA) will from hereon be known as British Schools’ Judo (BSJ) and will operate under the rules and regulations of the National Governing Body i.e. British Judo Association (BJA).

It must be noted that the name British Schools’ Judo Association has been officially registered and no one may operate under the auspices of either the British Schools’ Judo Association or the BSJA.
